The reactions enable to supply multi-functionalized\/substituted cyclobutanes and cyclobutenes. He also discovered new transformation reactions from the 4-membered rings into a variety of structures, such as spiro\/fused cyclopropanes, medium-sized rings, bridged molecules and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. He applied the results to the design of new intelligent molecules, which display unique biological actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mid3\">\u65b0\u898f\u9023\u7d9a\u53cd\u5fdc\u3001\u591a\u6210\u5206\u53cd\u5fdc\u306e\u958b\u62d3\u3000<br \/>Development of New Domino\/Multicomponent Reactions<\/p>\n<p>He discovered several classes of domino reactions using anionic, cationic, radical and pericyclic chemistry. He focuses on \u201ctandem catalysis\u201d in domino reactions, in which catalyst(s) promote more than two fundamentally different reactions in a single reactor. The methods enable to construct complex molecular structures from simple substances in a single operation. He has also explored the new utility of strong Bronsted acid, triflimide (Tf2NH).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mid3\">\u5929\u7136\u7269\u306e\u5408\u6210\u7814\u7a76\u3000<br \/>Synthetic Studies towards Natural Products<\/p>\n<p>He has achieved total synthesis of several natural terpenes, such as cedranes, culmorine, longiborneol, paesslerin A (reported and revised structures), and protoilludanes. He also accomplished synthesis of alkaloids, such as deplancheine, several simple beta-carboline alkaloids, lepadifrmines, and trans-Dihydronarciclasine. He also reported the synthesis of partial structure of several natural products. He uses his original reactions in the syntheses of the above natural products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mid3\">\u5206\u5b50\u4e0d\u6589\u306e\u5316\u5b66\u3000<br \/>Molecular Chirality and Dynamic Molecular Motion<\/p>\n<p>He is interested in atropisomerism based on axial, planar and helical chirality. He also reported the enantioselective catalytic reactions using axially chiral organocatalysts<\/p>\n<h5>\uff5e\u73fe\u5728\u5b9f\u65bd\u3057\u3066\u3044\u306a\u3044\u7814\u7a76 (not currently conducted)\uff5e<\/h5>\n<p class=\"mid3\">\u533b\u85ac\u54c1\u5316\u5b66\uff08\u71b1\u5e2f\u75c5\u6cbb\u7642\u85ac\u306e\u958b\u767a\uff09\u3000<br \/>Medicinal Chemistry (Development of New Drug Candidates for Tropical Diseases)<\/p>\n<p>He investigated the development of new candidate treatments for malaria, American trypanosomiasis, human African trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis. He found that several synthetic compounds displayed excellent in vitro &amp; in vivo efficacies against Plasmodium berghei when administered intraperitoneally or orally.
