Back ground

The Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Kyoto University has been involved in construction of an center for “creation of drug (wisdom)”and“development of therapy (humanity)” by way of combing various scholarships, aiming at contribution to human health and social progress. Concretely, many seed compounds for cancer therapy has been discovered and also various tissue selective drug delivery systems (DDS) for gene therapy has been developed here. On the other hand, the Institute for Virus Research in Kyoto University has performed excellent works on research of virus-induced tumors and development of therapy against hepatic tumor. Moreover, usefulresearch tools such as humanized mouse and primate disease model for drug discovery have already been established in this institute.In the Graduate School of Science and Engineering in Ritsumeikan University, frontier research has been progressed for clinical application in the filed of imperceptible processing technology and nanotechnology.

Purpose

Based on these backgrounds, we are going to establish new research foundation by the coordination with a multidisciplinary structure of science. In order to develop drugs and therapeutic systems for conquering various diseases such as tumors, we willpromote interdisciplinary and assimilative research fieldsoriginated from medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, drug delivery research, virology, MEMS(micro-electro mechanical systems) research, etc. We will also establish new system for education of scientists in a frontier research as well as a regulatory field. Ultimately, we will directly contribute to a development of a new therapy for intractable various molecular abnormalities by establishing an unique and world-leading research center based on innovative nanobio technologies.
