This institute is organized by 4 units including the Supervising and Cooperating Unit
(SCU), the Nanobio-research Unit (NBU), the Delivery System Group (DSG), and the
Seed-hunting Group (SHG). SCU is composed by associate professors and a senior
research fellow and promotes research based on coordination with pharmaceutical
sciences and engineering. NBU is composed by young scientists and promotes frontier
research for innovative therapy (ex tumor chemotherapy) utilizing a chemical biology,
gene technology, medical micro robot technology, etc. DSG is composed by scientists
belonging to the existing laboratories in Kyoto University and Ritsumeikan University
and will carried out researches relating to drug delivery issues. SHG is composed by
scientists in the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Institute of Virus
Research in Kyoto University and will try to find the seed for new drug. In addition
to research activity, SCU also promotes joint research coordination, patent management,
technology transfer, and industry-academia collaboration. Arrangement of education
program for a future global leader based on pharmaceutical sciences and engineering
should be another important part of its activities.
