Assistant Professor NINOMIYA has arrived. (the Department of Histogenetic Dynamics)

My name is NINOMIYA Komaki, and I am honored to have been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Histogenetic Dynamics, effective April 1, 2025.
I studied biology at the Faculty of Science, Tohoku University, and received my Ph.D. (Life Science) in 2021 from theGraduate School of Life Sciences at Tohoku University. My doctoral research was conducted under the guidance of Drs. Kensaku Mizuno and Kazumasa Ohashi. Following my Ph.D., I joined the Kuranaga Lab, where I served as a Research Fellow of the JSPS, then as a Research Assistant Professor, and subsequently as an Assistant Professor from 2023.
My research focuses on understanding the universal principles underlying the organization of multicellular organisms—specifically, how individual cells coordinate to achieve collective functions. I aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that regulate essential processes such as cell adhesion and migration. Using model systems including 3D cultures of mammalian epithelial cells and the developmental processes of Drosophila, I am currently investigating the intra- and intercellular signaling pathways that govern various collective cell behaviors. These mechanisms are fundamental to a wide range of biological phenomena, from tissue homeostasis to disease progression.
I am truly excited to engage in research and education within the interdisciplinary environment of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I look forward to gaining new perspectives and deepening my own research through this opportunity.
I sincerely appreciate your support and guidance. Thank you very much.
