Q What do I need to do in order to enroll in the Master’s Program?

A An applicant must be enrolled as a Research Student for half 1 year or longer in an affiliate subdivision of the Faculty or the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University in order to take the entrance examination for special selection for international student admission to the Master’s Program of the Graduate School.

Q What do I need to do in order to become a Research Student (non-regular student)?

A Applicants must obtain, in advance, informal consent for acceptance from the faculty member from whom the applicants desire to receive research guidance.

* Those who have graduated from Chinese universities (including Hong Kong and Taiwan institutions) need to observe the following procedures in advance:

1. Access the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) of Kyoto University and download the form required for submission to AAO.
2. Complete the form and send it with other documents required for submission by e-mail.
3. AAO shall inquire of the faculty member nominated in the applicant’s form about initiating contact.
4. On receiving a reply from AAO giving permission to initiate contact, the applicant can contact the nominated faculty member to request acceptance.

File an application according to “Guidelines for Research Student Admission” after obtaining informal consent from the nominated faculty member.
Application period: Applications must be filed with the Student Affairs Office of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences by the end of February for April enrollment and by the end of August for October enrollment.
Application fees must be paid before filing an application.


Q What do I need to do in order to enroll in the Doctoral Program?

A An applicant needs to select the department in which he/she wishes to receive guidance after enrollment in the Graduate School and to make contact with the director of that department in order to obtain informal consent before filing an application.


Q When is the enrollment period?

A For both the Master’s Program and the Doctoral Program, the enrollment periods for special selection for international students are April and October.


 

Q Is a score for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) required?

A No. EJU scores are not required for Graduate School Applicants.


Q Is the TOEFL exam required?

A For the Master’s Program,
The exam requirement depends on whether you apply for enrollment in April or in October. Please carefully read the following.

April Enrollment:
Applicants must take the TOEFL exam before taking the entrance examination. A written exam for the subject “English” is not conducted on the day of the entrance examination. Instead, the applicant’s score for TOEFL iBT, taken in advance, shall be used for evaluation. Please refer to the guidelines for admission regarding the validity period for a TOEFL score. Applicants must bring the original of their Examinee Score Record (photocopies are not acceptable) on the day of the entrance examination.

October Enrollment:
Applicants do not need to take the TOEFL exam beforehand. However, they are required to take the TOEFL ITP exam* in August at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
* TOEFL ITP is a paper-based institutional TOEFL test program.


For the Doctoral Program,

The TOEFL exam is not required.
