Assistant Professor ZHU has arrived. (the Department of Drug Delivery Research)

My name is ZHU Chengyuan. I was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Drug Delivery Research in July 2025.
In 2017, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Zhejiang University in China. In 2018, I joined Kyoto University’s Department of Drug Delivery Research to study drug delivery systems and completed my master’s and PhD there. After graduation, I worked at a pharmaceutical venture capital firm, investing in innovative drugs for unmet clinical needs from pre-IND through clinical stages. That role taught me what it takes to turn lab findings into real medicines.
Now I’ve returned to the same department, researching how to control the dynamics and functions of therapeutic cells in vivo. With cell-based therapies on the rise, guiding cell behavior is the core challenge. It calls for both cross-disciplinary knowledge and a deep grasp of cell biology. I look forward to my work at Kyoto University and appreciate any guidance or advice you can offer.
