Guidelines for Special Selection for International Student Admission to April 2021 Master’s Program of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must have a “College Student” residence status (Ryugaku, this includes students who expect to acquire this status by the time of admission), and must satisfy one of the following requirements (or who will satisfy one of the following requirements by the end of March 2021).
(1)Applicants who have completed 16 years of education abroad
(2) Individuals who have been conferred (or are expected to complete by March 31, 2021) a bachelor’s degree(including degrees equivalent thereto) by completing more than 3 years of education in a foreign university or a foreign institution (including by completing a foreign school education through distance learning while residing in Japan and by completing a foreign university curriculum in Japan at an educational facility accredited as having an approved curriculum under the educational system of the said country and is also designated by the Minister of MEXT).
(3)Applicants who are at least 22 years old and judged to have the academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a university graduate through their submitted documents given by the Graduate School.
Note 1:
Applicants must have spent at least half of one year enrolled as a Research Student in Kyoto University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences or any of the Graduate School’s collaborative departments. However, those students who are judged by the Graduate School to have an outstanding academic record may be exempt from this requirement. Applicants must have obtained consent from the prospective chair of their preferred department.
Note 2:
Applicants who have not spent at least half of one year as a Research Student at either Kyoto University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences or any of the Graduate School’s collaborative departments must undergo an eligibility screening before being able to apply. To apply for an eligibility screening, students must submit an Application Form for Eligibility Screening along with a graduation certificate and an academic transcript to the Education Affairs Office, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University, by Thursday, December 3, 2020. Students may obtain an Application Form for Eligibility Screening at the Education Affairs Office, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University.
Note 3:
Applicants who meet requirement (3) must undergo an eligibility screening. These applicants must submit an application to the Education Affairs Office, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University on or before Thursday, December 3, 2020.
Prior to filing, applicants should ask the Education Affairs Office about which required documents are needed.
Note 4:
Applicants who have graduated from a Japanese university are not eligible for this screening process.

Special selection for international students for 2021 April enrollment

A score for TOEFL taken on or after February 1, 2019 shall be valid.

Only TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test) results shall be valid.
Please note that other examinations administered by TOEFL (TOEFL ITP [Institutional Testing Program], etc.) shall not be accepted.

Applicants must take TOEFL iBT individually and bring the original of their Test Taker Score Report (photocopies are not acceptable) on the day of the entrance examination (Note). Please note that failure to submit an Test Taker Score Report for TOEFL iBT shall result in a zero mark for English. If the submitted document is found to be fraudulent, passing of the examination shall be rescinded. An applicant’s Test Taker Score Report can be returned if requested.

(Note) It may take longer than two months for examinees to receive their Test Taker Score Report by mail. Therefore, applicants should take TOEFL iBT well in advance.

Period of status as a Research Student: half 1 year from April 2021

Application for special selection for international student admission to the Master’s Program: July 2021

Entrance examination for special selection for international student admission to the Master’s Program:

August 2021: Examination (English(TOEFL-ITP))

September 2021: Examination (Special subject, Japanese)

Enrollment in the Master’s Program (regular student): October 2021

Admissions guide for graduates from foreign universities

Applicants who have completed an undergraduate program at a foreign university and wish to enroll in Kyoto University as a research student or graduate student may be required to go through a reference process with the Admissions Assistance Office (AAO) before applying to the graduate school or institute they wish to enroll in.
